Things To Do

If you are planning on staying a few extra days and exploring the city, here are our top things to do, places to eat at, and things to keep in mind

Places to Visit

Monserrate

Monserrate is important as a prominent cultural, religious, and tourist landmark in Bogotá, Colombia, featuring a historic sanctuary with a revered statue of the Fallen Lord of Monserrate that draws pilgrims seeking miracles and favor. It also serves as a significant point of reference in the city and offers stunning panoramic views, making it a must-visit destination for both religious devotion and general tourism.

Fun fact: There is a deeply rooted Colombian superstition that says unmarried couples who climb to the summit of Monserrate will never marry.

El Museo del Oro

Gold mining occupies an important historical and cultural role for Colombia dating back centuries (and represented by the yellow stripe in its flag!). In pre-Hispanic times, gold was mined and used to create jewelry, art and ceremonial items. The Gold Museum of Bogotá has collected more than 55,000 pieces of goldwork, of which around 6,000 pieces are on public display. It also has items made from bone, stone, ceramics and textiles, from peoples including the Tumaco, Narino, Cauca, Chocó and Malagana.

Botero Museum

Explore a large collection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures by Fernando Botero, a Colombian artist famous for his "Boterismo" style of depicting figures with exaggerated volumes. The Botero museum also houses a diverse collection of international art from masters like Picasso, Monet, Renoir, and Dalí.

Note from Juanita: What I love about this museum is that it is inside a beautiful traditional colonial home with a central courtyard (pictured above!) which itself is a work of art
